In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Masha was born on September 21, 2012. Masha was a welcome child. Was born on time. But instead of the planned Caesarean, they were allowed to give birth on their own. As a result, she was squeezed out due to the weakness of labor. Then they resuscitated for 40 minutes. Saved. For nine days our baby was in intensive care under a ventilator. Then we spent two months in the neonatal pathology department.
Diagnosis - anomaly of the development of the brain with persistent spastic tetraparesis, gross delay in psycho-speech development, epilepsy
Masha did not have a sucking reflex and they could not let us go home. Every three hours a feeding tube was inserted into her and in fact nothing else was done to us there. So I learned to do it myself and we finally went home. Since then, we have been fighting for a full-fledged future for nine years now. We have to learn the most elementary things - we learned to eat from a spoon at three months, showed all kinds of toys for hours, so that at last at five months we could see the first smile. Not finding support from a doctor ("let her live up to a year at least"), we independently look for methods and specialists who can help. We really need diapers, special formula and wet wipes. Any help will will be grateful for."
Can you help us purchase formula and diapers for Masha for the next three months?
