Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance and are unable to afford necessities to improve their quality of life.
From our fieldworker - Maria Cristina
"For over a decade now, Maya's Hope has been helping children around the world especially in the Philippines and Ukraine.
Its vision of saving the lives of kids varies from medical needs; surgery, therapy, basic supplies plus medicines and educational assistance has changed the lives of many cutie pies and families.
But Maya's Hope won’t stop embracing the deprived and the needy. Challenges along the way have come to cross the limits of just food, education and medicines. Maya's Hope faces another problem of a former patient who is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, microcephaly and impaired vision. She is Skyliegh Ybañez who was born on January 29, 2019. But lately last year, it suffered much damage.
Sky’s mother, Rodelyn, could never forget the rumbling, roaring, howling winds on December 17, 2021, barely eight days before Christmas. And the terrifying nightmare took place, surging waves and flashfloods washed away most of the towns in Bohol including Ubay, where Sky’s family lives.
Upon reaching this bad news to Mayas Hope, the committee tried to reach out for Sky’s family in Bohol but due to the cyclone, internet and electrical posts fell down and signals went off. It’s been weeks before Maya's Hope received a response from Sky’s family, because just like the others, their house and everything went to raging waves.
Our main concern for the family is their safety. Thank God that they’re all safe but for how long?
Sky has comorbidities and might endanger the kid’s life as they stay in a congested and tight evacuation facility with all the other families. Knowing that it’s still Pandemic and with Covid 19 around, how could they possibly make it?
Sky became very sickly and it is so unsafe for the kid to stay in the evacuation site. Maya's Hope acted quickly. Providing a simple dwelling place will be an option. But for a father who is working as an irregular chicken harvester and a mother who sometimes find items to resell online, how can they rebuild their simple home when they can only provide two meals a day for their two kids?
Maya's Hope is committed to providing for kids in its program. Since Sky's family lost everything, we decided to build a house from scratch.
Please help us raise $2005 USD to cover the materials and labor for baby Sky's home.
