In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Hello! I am the mother of Bogdan, my special son. He was born prematurely in the sixth month of pregnancy, weighing 840 grams with severe respiratory difficulties. From this day began his difficult journey of 3 months of intensive care, including 82 days on artificial ventilation, another one and a half months in neonatology. We were discharged home at almost 5 months.
Today my son is 9 years old, he does not sit on his own, does not walk. He has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, speech developmental delay level 1, dysarthria, hip dysplasia. All this time he bravely fights for a full life and a happy childhood undergoing many different procedures, massages, exercise therapy, injections, acupuncture, rehabilitation...
Bogdan is a very smart boy, he understands everything, but due to increased spasticity can not talk, it is also hard for his hands to work. But he works hard.
We really need diapers, baby food (porridge, puree), and formula. We hope you can help us."
