During a humanitarian crisis, it is often the needs of the marginalised and the most vulnerable in society which are overlooked. In Ukraine, people with disabilities are having to shelter in baths when bomb shelters are inaccessible. Many have been unable to evacuate using public transport or trains.
We believe that no person should be left behind. That’s why Legacy of War Foundation, Alan Erasmus, John Thomson, Justin Moorhouse and a whole host of talent from the North-West are standing together to provide wheelchairs, accessible transportation and further practical support for the 2.7 million Ukrainian children and adults with documented disabilities, and other vulnerable members of society.
As Factory Records co-founder Alan Erasmus, who visited Lviv this month to see the reality on the ground for himself, says: “This is a huge displacement of people – they all need our help”.
To help raise funds, we'll be hosting some incredible gigs - including an upcoming Easter Comedy Eggstravaganza for Ukraine.
Our initial goal is raise £50000 to provide 200 wheelchairs, accessories and an accessible vehicle for our partners in Ukraine, to ensure people living with disabilities can evacuate safely and with dignity. If we exceed our target, we will continue to purchase additional mobility aids and accessible transport, as well as funding vital educational and psychosocial support for children displaced by the conflict - both in and outside of Ukraine. Any further funds will be used by Legacy of War Foundation to develop sustainable longer-term support for vulnerable communities in Ukraine.
