Every breast cancer survivor has a story; often, it begins with a mammogram.
During the summer of 2024, the single mammography unit at Forks Community Hospital, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, was damaged during a power surge. Despite extensive repair attempts, the damage was too severe to restore the unit. The nearest imaging department to our community hospital is over 50 miles away, making it difficult for community members to reach, especially those with limited transportation options.
When it was determined that the unit could not be restored after extensive attempts to repair it, FCH leaders began taking steps to rent a unit, which arrived at the hospital on September 27, 2024.
Our number one priority is to ensure we have the resources available to provide residents of the West End with access to high-quality healthcare services, including life-saving mammograms.
As with this type of essential technology, the equipment comes with great expense, both in the acquisition and maintenance. While FCH was fortunate to find a way to rent a new mammogram unit, the goal is to own it; however, the expense of acquiring it is far out of our financial reach.
Thankfully, the Forks Hospital Foundation (FHF) has committed to launching a new campaign, which brings you to this secure donation website!
The campaign is called “Operation Mammogram,” its purpose is to raise $250,000 allocated to purchase this critically important technology.
