LITTLE VILLAGE'S
Independent Journalism Fund
Independent journalism only survives when the community sustains it, and your financial gifts to Little Village made through the nonprofit Alternative Newsweekly Foundation (altnewsfoundation.org) are tax-free. They allow us to expand our coverage while keeping our stories free and accessible to readers throughout Iowa and beyond.
Through December 31, 2025, donors at the $100+ level will received the Classic LV Tote as thanks.
Donations will support our work in the following ways:
1. Expanded Distribution
Your donations will help make it possible for Little Village to:
- Increase monthly print quantity from 20,000 to 30,000 magazines in 2026.
- Increase reader access and reach new readers by expanding distribution into smaller towns and rural communities throughout the state of Iowa.
- Add drivers to our distribution team, ensuring magazines arrive on time and hot off the press each month.
2. Government Reporting
Your donations fund more local and state government reporting. In the independent, alternative newsmedia tradition, Little Village publishes reporting on key issues––healthcare, education, the environment, labor rights, LGBTQ issues, civil rights and economic justice––and works to improve communities by providing essential information to readers and holding public officials accountable.
3. Environmental Reporting
Your donations will support Little Village's crucial environmental journalism as we chart the effects of industrial agriculture on Iowa water quality and access, wildlife, air pollution and food deserts amid a changing climate and regulatory rollbacks. LV also highlights the small farmers, land stewards and nonprofits working against the grain to preserve Iowa's natural grandeur.
4. Arts Journalism
Your donations fund more arts reporting––reviews and criticism, artist profiles, event previews and thousands of event listings on one of Iowa's most relied-upon event calendars, littlevillagemag.com/calendar.
Attendance at cultural events is essential to the existence of Iowa's performance venues. It's also among the most important drivers of the state's economy––after all, what's a night out without dinner and drinks? The arts make Iowa's communities better, and Little Village helps connect artists with their audience.
