As Philadelphia’s longest-running noncommercial film exhibition program we’re proud to bring important and innovative films to the big screen and serve as a hub for cinemagoers with the support of our community. When the University of the Arts abruptly closed in 2024, our film program was forced to cease operations. We heard tremendous response from film lovers in Philly and beyond with a desire to keep this nearly fifty year-old program alive, so we have reimagined Lightbox as a standalone non-profit organization. That means we no longer have a larger institution to bolster us and pay for operating costs.
