The Leap and Learn Playground Campaign by Child & Family Services of Northwestern Michigan (CFS) is raising funds to build a nature-based playground for the children and families we serve. This specially designed outdoor space will provide a safe, welcoming area for therapy sessions, family visits, and unstructured play — all crucial for healing and growth for children in foster care, counseling, and safe visits and exchange programs. We are excited to announce we have already received a generous $30,000 grant from Traverse City Light & Power's Community Investment Fund to help launch this vital project.
Nature-based play offers proven emotional, cognitive, and physical benefits. It reduces stress, builds resilience, sparks creativity, strengthens problem-solving, improves attention, and promotes healthy movement and sensory exploration. For children who have experienced trauma or family disruption, a nature playground creates a neutral, nonclinical environment where they can express themselves, strengthen bonds with caregivers, and experience the simple joys of outdoor play.
Our campaign goal is to raise an additional $20,000 to cover natural play structures, landscaping, safe pathways, and ongoing maintenance. With your help, we can complete a space that supports children’s healing in a meaningful, lasting way. We invite you to donate, sponsor, or share the Leap and Learn Playground Campaign — together, we can give CFS children the gift of growth and joy through nature.
