The Washington Charitable Trust Landmine Relief Fund raises money for Ukrainian Ministry for Emergencies (UME)
Landmines in populated areas and explosive remnants of war are real and present dangers for the children of Ukraine.
“Children have been killed. Children have been wounded. And children are being profoundly traumatized by the violence all around them.
“We must protect all children in Ukraine. Now. They need peace.”
Also By the estimates of the Ukrainian Ministry for Emergencies (UME) about 300 thousand square kilometres of Ukrainian territory has been mined, what is roughly constitutes half of the country.
This constitutes a serious problem not only for children of Ukraine, but for the whole world, as Ukraine has been and remains a significant producer of wheat, sun flower oil and other crops.
UME estimates that de-mining will take up to 10 years and require overall funding of $500 million
