Since its inception in 2005, KYEA has envisioned a supportive space where youth with disabilities can flourish. Over the years, we’ve empowered thousands of young individuals to embrace their disabilities as integral parts of their identities.
One way we empower the youth we serve is through our Youth Leadership Forum. It is an annual five-day event that brings together 20-25 high school juniors and seniors with diverse disabilities. This motivational forum is hosted at Washburn University in Topeka and focuses on leadership, advocacy, and goal setting. Delegates and volunteers from across the state participate in this immersive and resource-rich conference, fostering connections and learning from one another and successful adults with disabilities.
A significant goal is establishing a second location for this vital leadership opportunity. Your donations will help inspire and prepare youth with disabilities for their future!
Another impactful program we offer is the Empower Me! Series, which brings essential employment skills directly to youth in their communities. Participants engage in interactive, day-long sessions with KYEA staff, focusing on navigating employment and learning critical soft skills like interviewing, resume building, and post-secondary options. These workshops empower youth to view their disabilities not as burdens but as part of a promising future.
A portion of your donation will support the expansion of workshop locations and enable us to invite more participants.
At the heart of our mission is a commitment to encouraging, empowering, and nurturing youth with disabilities throughout Kansas. There is a pressing need for education about disability awareness and pride. For too long, stigmas have surrounded individuals with disabilities, and we aim to create a wave of change.
Join us in making a difference—donate to our organization today and partner with us to transform the lives of deserving young people.
