According to the NIH, 48% of low-income mothers reported elevated postpartum depression yet only 4% of Black Mothers receive and ask for help because of lack of education, finances, and community support around care for moms during the fourth trimester.
Taking care of mama is the first line of defense for healthy families and communities.
The Fourth Trimester Fund is uniquely designed to provide emotional, mental, and physical support for moms during the first 30 days through postpartum doulas. Doula care is a proven, cost-effective means of reducing racial disparities in maternal health and improving overall health outcomes. All postpartum mothers deserve access to full spectrum doula care. Our fund is designed to give hundreds of Black expectant mothers access to lifesaving support through doula services. It’s an initial step in our efforts to close the postpartum depression gap.
To kickstart our efforts, we are hoping to raise $10,000 USD to impact 50 mothers in 2023. Our fund would position mothers to have a healthy mind and body during the fourth trimester which will better position them for improving their well-being, children’s overall health, and thrive in motherhood.
