It’s a tough time to be alive, and just as tough to be an alternative arts non-profit. However, in this age of rising prices, tensions, and political violence, we at AAMP Utah know that the artists and programs we provide for are more crucial than ever before. Help us get through the most difficult months of the year by giving us a small donation, so we can continue to provide a place to scream, wail, rage, thrash, create, and build and foster creative communities of like minded artists hell-bent on trying to keep the spirit of the American outsider artist alive.
The Beehive is a critical part of Salt Lake's art and music scene, often acting as a springboard for local artists and musicians to have their first chance to get on a stage and perform their art, and hosting events to help all sorts of artists pursue their dreams. We have provided a home for underground theater companies and improv poetry slams and writing workshops, countless rock shows, music programs, art classes, and the odd semi professional wrestling match. We have been the place to go for all the art that needs a place to be, and a venue to lay down roots for communities that need a place to grow.
June and July are often difficult months for performance arts, and historically have been a struggle for the Beehive. With the loss of our business partner, the small cafe in the front of the building, our rent is now doubling our current overhead. Luckily, with the outpouring of love from our local community, last year we were able to raise $9000 dollars in our June fundraiser, and this year we're hoping we can rally again and get us current on rent in order to give the Beehive another year to keep giving Utah artists and musicians a home.
