Hip Vibes began as a free community wellness series on Detroit’s East Side combining bellydance, movement, and pelvic health education in a welcoming, body-positive environment. The initial 6-week series was funded through the Arts Midwest GIG Fund, with support from East Warren Development Corporation, sponsorship from Flamz Pizzeria, and supplies funded through Seeding Wayne County.

What started as a short-term pilot quickly became something much bigger. Participants shared how meaningful it felt to have an accessible space for movement, confidence-building, wellness education, and community connection — and many asked for the classes to continue.

Pelvic Sanctuary is now working to launch an ongoing Tuesday evening Hip Vibes class series while continuing broader community wellness programming on East Warren.

As a small grassroots nonprofit still building long-term funding in Detroit, Pelvic Sanctuary currently relies heavily on volunteers, community partnerships, small grants, and donations to sustain accessible programming. While initial funding helped launch the pilot series and purchase supplies we will continue using in future programs, we do not yet have stable operational funding to sustain ongoing classes and community wellness offerings.

Funds raised through this campaign will help support:

  • affordable community classes and workshops
  • instructor compensation
  • space rental and utilities
  • outreach and accessibility efforts
  • ongoing operations that help Pelvic Sanctuary continue serving the community

In a time when many people are experiencing stress, isolation, financial hardship, and barriers to wellness resources, these programs offer a space for movement, learning, creativity, and connection.

One participant shared:
“Having access to healthy self care resources like this is so important to making good health accessible to all… these classes also provide a sense of community which is more important than ever as so many opportunities for community-building have eroded since the pandemic.”

Another Said:
“Women have nowhere to talk about these things. So much about our own health is still a mystery to us. This group made me feel less alone and more supported with some of the scary pelvic health issues I’ve been struggling with. Doctors don’t always listen to us. Other women do.”

Your donation helps sustain accessible movement classes, wellness education, community space, and grassroots programming rooted in care, creativity, and connection.

As a small grassroots nonprofit, every contribution truly makes a difference. We deeply appreciate your support and look forward to continuing this work together.
