About the Foundation:
The Shireen Abu Akleh Foundation will aim to raise 10 scholarships on an annual basis for students in the field of journalism and media at well renowned universities. Based in California, the United States, the family foundation hopes to continue Shireen's legacy by supporting the next generation of journalists through the establishment of scholarships around the globe.
Objectives:
Community Empowerment: Increase access in education and provide inclusive spaces for students by connecting them with opportunities in the field of journalism.
Community Support: Collaborate with communities to raise funds for students by encouraging them to get involved.
Community Recognition: Amplify public appreciation & recognize talent through understanding and participation of the Foundation mission.

Background:
On May 11, 2022, the Israeli Occupier Forces took the life of prominent Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the town of Jenin.
Palestine witnessed one of the largest funeral processions in its recent history, as tens of thousands mourned the daughter of Jerusalem from all walks of life.
Multiple universities and organizations announced that they would be accepting more journalists impacted by this devastating loss through the establishment of scholarships and endowment funds.
Two years later, the Foundation was established on May 11, 2024 through an official website, event announcements, and social media channels.
