Dear friends,
I’m writing this message with sincerity and gratitude, even if it comes a bit late. Today, many wonderful sanctuaries are sharing their Giving Tuesday campaigns. In my case, I’m doing my best on my own — managing all administrative tasks, sustaining the sanctuary financially, and caring for the animals every day. Because of this, I didn’t have time to create a traditional Giving Tuesday campaign.
Sometimes I have to choose between sitting down to write or making sure the animals have food. I imagine you understand which one has to come first.
This year has been one of the most challenging in our sanctuary’s history. More than 90% of our recurring donations were cancelled, likely due to the difficult global economic situation. As a result, there have been moments when it feels like people have lost interest in helping, even with just one dollar, the more than 200 rescued animals who depend on us.
There are many things people don’t usually see behind the scenes of a farm animal sanctuary.
We cover salaries for caregivers, veterinarians, and the person who maintains fences and buildings. We do not receive special discounts on veterinary services or supplies, nor do we receive government financial support — in fact, the government often reaches out asking us for help.
Our monthly expenses are significant:
$4,000+ for food for large animals
$2,000+ in veterinary bills
$1,500+ in repairs for fences, roofs, and spaces damaged by the animals
$4,500 Employee health insurance
Emergency medical care, which can be extremely costly
Providing food and shelter is only a part of what we do. Behind this sanctuary is a large, complex operation that runs every single day, all year long. This is why your support is truly essential.
I’m sorry if this message feels heavy — I simply want to share our reality with honesty and respect.
