I really benefited immensely as a member of the Class of 1992. The fellowship greatly enhanced my professional capabilty having attained more journalism skills during my time in US. I was able to rise to the position of editor in my newspaper and later as chairman of the editorial board of another prominent national newspaper before leaving the profession in 2003 following my appointment as a cabinet member of the Lagos State Government.
I recently started reading Andrew Pettegree's "The Invention of News." He dates the start of wider-audience publications to the early 1600's, building from an appetite for credible public affairs information that bloomed with the growth of cities and the new technology of printing. What struck me forcefully is his repeated description of an audience "hungry for information" it could trust -- exactly the same condition our foundation exists to serve.
An outstanding organization that I am delighted to support.
