CREATING SPACE FOR HEALING AND TRANSFORMATION
THE CHALLENGE
This past year was one of our most challenging fundraising years — with the general decline and interest in social justice work from corporations and the world, we saw a steep decrease in our funding efforts.
We felt the impact of this as we continued to uphold our mission by prioritizing the needs of communities experiencing systemic oppression — from corporate sponsors pulling out of our PRIDE programming that covered the topic of Queerness and spirituality to our humanitarian stance for calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
As always, we are sustained by our community, folks who understand the deep value of our work and know that we are doing the best work we can with the tools that we have within the oppressive systems we live in.
OUR ASK
We have long discussed how we can redistribute resources and wealth, which we have done to the best of our ability. Even though most months we are unable to sustain ourselves financially, we continue to fundraise for organizations and communities more in need of us. As always, we hope to be a gateway and an invitation for our community to continue to reflect on the ways in which everyone, regardless of your position in the world, can find a way to not just give, but pave the path of liberation for all of us. We hope that we have shown you, through our name change and beyond, that we are here to evolve with and for your and to meet your needs the best we can.
The world is hurting. We know you’re being asked to give widely right now. But we are asking because we know only you understand in the depths of your being, on a cellular level, how important it is for us to continue to hold the spaces we do to transform our internalized oppression into personal joy, community care, and social awareness. It is through this act of mutual aid that you will help us continue our operations so we can hold space for transformation, for healing — so we can all be liberated one day.
Joyful Liberation Collective is raising $10,000 for their 2024 Programming.
What will $10,000 bring?
$10,000 will allow us to cover:
1. Our monthly operational cost ($412.09/month) for six months (total of $2,472.54) gives us enough time and space to be able to plan for the remainder of the year and to start planning for a sustainable funding process.
2. Continue our marquee programming of hosting two Compassionate Conversations — one to serve our Black community and one to serve our Queer community. This radical talk series has been groundbreaking in leading conversations on healing and belonging in a way and is a way to affirm and uplift the challenges of our communities that are often ignored.
To ensure that both our staff (all of whom experience systemic oppression everyday) and our Speakers are properly valued for their time and energy, the cost for this kind of event costs $5000 to organize properly.
OUR IMPACT
Joyful Liberation Collective is a 501(c)(3) grassroots organization that creates liberatory spaces to transform internalized oppression into personal joy, community care, and social awareness.
We have only been in operation since 2019, but are already making an impact nationwide. We are proud to embody the values we share with the world: 70% of our community identify as BIPOC, and ~50% identify as queer.
In 2022, we we reached 5,000 unduplicated individuals through our mindfulness and social justice programming. As part of our commitment to accessibility, we awarded 10 scholarships for our programming and activities from 2021-2022. We also expanded our paid team from 0 to 4 team members and our board from 4 to 8 members.
