This month the Jasper County Historical Society ran several events at the Pioneer Village during the Jasper County Fair. Our volunteers scrubbed and swept the buildings before fair week and made minor repairs. During the fair our volunteers ran several programs in the pioneer village including lessons on spinning wool, and a small scavenger hunt in the cabin!
We always need more volunteers to help run programs at the cabin, Rosebud Schoolhouse, and the Parr Post Office. These buildings are owned by the county but are maintained by the historical society. Consider volunteering next year!
This month the Historical Society worked on sorting and organizing our collection of uniforms, hats, and other historical clothing. Items of historical value were placed in archival boxes with tissue paper. At our monthly meeting we hosted a talk on the history of the Lions Club. Oh, and we set up our new donation page! If you can support our programs through volunteer hours or a donation, please consider doing so!
