October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to increase awareness about breast cancer, the second most common cancer among women in the United States (CDC and Prevention, 2021). National Breast Cancer Awareness Month dates back to October 1985. This is when the first organized movement to bring attention to the dangers of breast cancer occurred in the United States. Since then, campaigns to educate the public about this disease have continued to thrive and multiply. This month, Family Health La Clinica, our healthcare team, and community partners will be raising awareness and supporting those affected by breast cancer. While Breast Cancer Awareness lasts only a month, FHLC is committed to continuing awareness all year round. Please consider joining our cause to support the work of breast cancer awareness within our communities.
Family Health La Clinica (FHLC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving patients primarily from the Central Wisconsin counties of Portage, Waupaca, Juneau, Adams, Waushara, Marquette, Green Lake, Sauk, Columbia, and Dodge, and the entire state for the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker (MSAW) population. FHLC’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of all people in the communities they serve. FHLC does this by providing a place for every member of the household to receive quality healthcare.
FHLC provides primary medical, dental, behavioral health and substance abuse recovery services, as well as Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) programming at its main site in Wautoma, behavioral health and substance abuse recovery services in Friendship, and dental services in Stevens Point, Mauston, and Beaver Dam and mobile preventative dental services in dozens of schools and long-term care facilities over 7 counties.
Family Health La Clinica’s primary program outside of established medical, dental, and behavioral health services for those within our communities, is the work we do with the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker population. FHLC delivers primary medical care to MSAW patients at its Wautoma location and via a fully equipped, 40-foot Mobile Health Center. A medical team travels with the Mobile Health Center throughout the state delivering services to workers at migrant housing camps, places of employment, and other locations where workers can easily access the unit.
