Historic Aircraft Restoration and Preservation

The Moorabbin Air Museum holds the most important collection of Australian made aviation in the world, alongside a large collection of aircraft from overseas that have seen service in this country. 2022 marks the 60th year since our formation (as the Australian Aircraft Restoration Group) and it also marks our biggest undertakings to date.

Many of our aircraft are the oldest surviving examples either in Australia or the world.

Being a volunteer museum means we rely on gate takings and donations from people across the globe who are keen to see us continue our goal of preserving these aircraft so that we may educate, and foster a love of aviation in future generations.

At the moment we have a large number of aircraft in the works queue, including:

P-40 Kittyhawk A29-53 (sole survivor of the battle of Darwin)

Wackett A3-22 (oldest surviving)

Boomerang A46-25 (oldest original surviving)

DAP Beaufort A9-13 (Oldest in world)

Avro Lincoln (one of just four left)

Douglas DC-3 (ex C50), third oldest in Australia.

That's where we really need your generosity! To give you an idea, a set of extrusion for the P-40 wings is $15,000. None of this is cheap if we are doing it properly and to ensure it lasts. But we have broken this down into smaller blocks which also assists us in focusing on one area at a time.

Please help us continue our work and supporting our museum. Thank you.
