We're funding the building work to extend Project Peru's refuge so they can house, support and care for more vulnerable children for longer in the shantytown of Las Laderas which is one of the world's poorest communities. The pandemic has devastated Peru, which has suffered the highest mortality rate from the virus globally, leaving even more children in desperate need.
The refuge doesn't have enough space, which tragically means children have to leave the refuge as young as 14 years old with nowhere to live, no chance of staying in school and limited prospects in one of the world's poorest shantytown regions. By financing the building, we are also providing local jobs for builders, tradespeople, teachers and refuge staff, ensuring more children can complete their education and gain meaningful employment. All of which will contribute back to their local economy ... a positive, sustainable cycle of impact on children's entire lives and the wider community of Las Laderas.
The Amoria Bond Group is funding most of the building work, which has already started, but we need to raise another £11,000 to complete the project. On 11th June 2022, a team of 12 self-funded volunteer employees are travelling to Las Laderas for a week to help with building work and at the local soup kitchen and will be staying at the refuge during this time. We have developed a close relationship with the staff and children at Project Peru's Refuge, and have seen first-hand the positive sustained impact they have on the lives of the children they look after - this will be the 5th team of employees who have volunteered on Amoria Bond Charitable Trust projects and stayed at the refuge since 2009.
The Amoria Bond Charitable Trust has partnered with Project Peru for over ten years. Project Peru is a registered charity that runs a children's refuge in Peru, providing a safe place for vulnerable children from impoverished families and often tragic and heart-breaking circumstances. The refuge is entirely staffed by local people and volunteers and relies entirely on donations as it receives zero government support or funding.
Thanks to the generosity of Amoria Bond employees and supporters, we have built 100 houses and two soup kitchens in the refuge's surrounding community of Laderas - a shantytown in the foothills of Lima - as well as funding hundreds of care packages of essential items every Christmas.
Can you help us to hit our fundraising target? Every single penny raised will go directly to the project as Amoria Bond covers all overheads.
It's hard to fully grasp until you've been to Las Laderas, but to get an idea of the kind of poverty we're talking about and by contrast, what a wonderful place Project Peru's Children's Refuge is and why it's so important that we help them to extend the support and care they provide we encourage you to check out some of the projects we've supported there over the years here
