Help 4 refugee girls to continue their education

We are four Syrian refugee girls – Aseel, Lujain, Hadeel, and Shahed. We need to raise $27,000 to continue our education so that we can help build a better future for Syria.

We fled the war in our home country and Shatila refugee camp in Beirut offered us a roof to live under.  Shatila is a 1 square km space housing approximately 40,000 refugees. The buildings are damp and packed so closely together that natural light doesn't enter our homes.

Collectively, we've lost years of education. Then, we joined Alsama Institute where we learnt to speak English, play cricket and work to realise our dreams.

Aseel & Lujain

  • Last year we applied & got into Brummana High School (BHS) which is a British international school in Lebanon ranked top 10 in the Middle East. Continuing our education at BHS is an amazing opportunity to help us eventually attend a top university and lead change in our community.
  • At BHS, within a couple of months of working really hard, we succeeded in receiving the highest marks in our class!! Aseel came top in Maths, Science, and History while Lujain was the best in Chemistry and Business.
  • BHS is setting us on the right path to achieving our goals of becoming an English professor (Aseel) and gynaecologist (Lujain). For Aseel, having the opportunity to study Shakespeare for the first time and passing her literature test on A Midsummer Night’s Dream with 92% has shown that there is no limit to improving her English whilst at BHS. Lujain’s hands-on experience inside the science lab has given her the feeling of being in the medical field and has made her even more determined to become a gynaecologist.
  • Shatila is still our home and we have continued to volunteer at Alsama Institute as a small first step to give back to our community. We strongly believe that a BHS education will help us to make an even bigger impact in our community - specifically in refugee camps and eventually back in Syria.

Hadeel & Shahed

  • We are currently studying at Alsama Insitute in Shatila and dream of continuing our education at BHS next year. We want to study at BHS to be among people from different environments, backgrounds, nationalities and religions – which isn’t our reality in the camp.
  • Both of us have already shown we’re capable of academic success. In 2020, Hadeel earned a one-year scholarship to study online at Bishopstrow College in the UK, while Shahed received a scholarship to take an advanced coding course with CodeBrave.
  • Continuing our educational journey at BHS will help us to achieve our dream of becoming a dentist (Hadeel) and businesswoman (Shahed). Hadeel is excited to start taking biology & chemistry classes, and Shahed can’t wait to take IGCSE business to begin her journey as an entrepreneur.
  • An excellent education is key to unlocking our potential. We feel it is important for girls from our backgrounds to be involved in rebuilding Syria & we want to show others that they can do it too.

We need to raise a total of $27,000 to cover the costs for next academic year (2022-2023) for the four of us. Raising $6,750 each will fund all the costs, such as school fees, books, and daily bus journeys from Shatila refugee camp to Brummana High School (20km).

Continuing our education at BHS is an exceptional opportunity for us to shape a better world. We would be grateful to anyone who can support us in this journey. All money kindly donated will be directed to Alsama, where it will be protected in a special fund to support our education.
