Picking up the pieces
Thanks so much for everyone's support!
Today (Saturday Oct 12), Hasee and Abby and their boarders spent hours trying to salvage as much as they could from their wreck of a home before it is razed. The house and studio are beyond repair, as one contractor put it, “unless you own a toothpick factory.” The boarders were in the house at the time of the landslide and were able to escape, unharmed, through a window. They have managed to find safe housing elsewhere in the community, and have applied for aid. Miraculously, some belongings are completely intact and untouched by the wreckage, while others are unrecognizable piles of rubble. Friends have offered to store their belongings until such time as they have a place to put them—a great help!
The close-knit community around Boone has really stepped forward to help folks who lost so much. Last night, they produced a community square dance with all proceeds going to those in need. Abby called, and Hasee played. Abby and Hasee are deeply grateful to all of you who have donated and helped them out. There is still so much to do!
