Two years ago, the E-Bike Lending Library started with just 4 bikes in a backyard. Today, we’ve completed more than 1000 loans, grown to 40 bikes and a team of more than a dozen volunteers, lending 15–20 e-bikes every week to people across Greater Boston. Hundreds of neighbors have discovered the joy of replacing car trips with e-bike rides — saving money, cutting emissions, and experiencing a new kind of freedom.
But here’s the challenge: demand is outpacing what we can offer. This year, our waiting list topped 220 people, with some waiting 3+ months for a bike. That’s too long. We’re ready to grow — and with your support, we can.
Our $10,000 Campaign Goals
Goal #1: Secure a real storage space ($3,500/yr)
Right now, our Porter Square library lives in a volunteer’s backyard — sometimes with 22 bikes crammed together. It’s unsustainable. We’ve found a nearby garage that’s safe, accessible, and ready to become our new home base. With it, we can protect our bikes, welcome more volunteers, and scale up our fleet.
Goal #2: Upgrade our loan system ($1,500/yr)
Google Sheets and email threads just can’t keep up anymore. A professional scheduling and communications platform will help us coordinate volunteers, manage loans, and keep riders informed — so the library runs smoothly as we grow.
Goal #3: Launch a new pickup location ($5,000)
This year we received $40,000 worth of donated bikes from manufacturers — but to keep up with demand, we also need to invest in popular models ourselves. With your help, we’ll open a new pickup location at Boston University, stocked with our most-requested bikes (Aventon Abound SR, Aventon Abound LR, Velotric Breeze). This will shorten wait times and expand access to an entirely new community.
