Groundwork Atlanta transforms vacant spaces into vibrant places through local environmental projects, including:
- Urban Agriculture - We work with the City of Atlanta and local growers to convert empty lots to farms and gardens in low-food access areas. In 2019 the AgLanta Grows-a-Lot project was a finalist for the international Engaged Cities Award from Cities of Service.
- Clean Waterways - We have provided planning and operational leadership for a pilot deployment of trash traps to capture litter in the Proctor Creek watershed. Groundwork Atlanta and our partners, Georgia Trade-Up, won the River Sustainability Award in 2020 from the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper for our role in this project.
- Brownfield Redevelopment - We work with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other partners to clean up polluted land in support of community-driven, sustainable urban redevelopment. Our collaborative efforts alongside many allies have halted a proposed fuel terminal on the former Chattahoochee Brick Company site.
Our projects have directly benefited dozens of Atlanta neighborhoods in our first five years, but we're just getting started. Donate to help us grow our impact!
