Glassworks Village is a project of Glassworks Cooperative, a not for profit cooperative organization.
At Glassworks we believe everyone who wants it, should be able to become a member, regardless of their ability to pay for it.
We offer two paths to membership, one as a sustaining monthly member, giving a set amount each month, and the other as an annual member, giving a set amount each year. Set amounts are determined by the member, and can change over time.
To eliminate financial barriers to community participation in Glassworks membership, our equity pricing model asks those who can afford to pay more, to do so, as to offset costs for those experiencing economic hardship.
The definition of "member & membership" will evolve as Glassworks grows from vision to brick and mortar and we look forward to sharing this evolution with you. All are welcome to become a member.
All members will receive our newsletter to be kept up to date on project progress and be invited to member events and opportunities to participate in growth of the project.
Our goal is to raise $2,500 in monthly sustaining memberships.
These monthly gifts support our project and helps cover operating costs so we can continue the pre-development work to get shovels in the ground ASAP!
All monthly sustainers become Glassworks Cooperative members who help shape the future of this attainable, sustainable housing community.
It is not news that Owen Sound and Grey-Bruce Counties are experiencing a housing crisis. Glassworks Village is one solution READY to meet this crisis NOW.
According to recent reports, 32% of households – or more than 8,000 people -- pay more than 30% percent of their income on housing, making them housing-insecure.
While there are plans in place for housing developments to be created in our area, none of the current potential projects explicitly address the issue of housing affordability.
New builds seem to focus on a desired lifestyle – single-family detached homes – regardless of the demand for smaller and affordable homes. Individuals cannot live or age in the same communities as their family and friends when there are no affordable options available to scale down- from the Community Foundation of Grey Bruce Vital Focus on Housing Report, December 2021.
With YOUR support, we are attempting to do something different: to BUILD a cooperative community focused on attainable, sustainable housing for all of its units.
