Power Pump Girls, Inc. (PPG) is a social impact club connecting and mobilizing women to disrupt systems of inequity. PPG's in-house initiative,"secured." combats period poverty and provides period care products to women and girls, along with education and advocacy surrounding menstrual health.
Those unable to access period products have reported the use of toilet paper, rags, leaves, newspapers, and other makeshift items. These alternatives place these people at a higher risk for infections of the urinary and genital systems. Moreover, lack of access to period care can negatively affect someone’s self-esteem and dignity.
For the same cost as your favorite cocktail, you can secure the bag for someone in need for an entire month. 300 tampons (aka a whole year of period products) can be purchased and distributed for less than your next grocery run. We agree that a $45 manicure is essential from time to time, but so is restoring dignity and access to those who need it most. Impact can be incremental, so start with where you are and with what you can!
