Many of us know that losing a piece of our culture or language is like losing a piece of ourselves, our family, our history. For too long, immigrant and indigenous children have been told that they must hide, code-switch, or assimilate to be successful. It is time for a different path forward; a path where the entirety of a child’s humanity is honored in their education. That’s why it’s so important that Bilingual Generation helps children learn, retain, and connect with their heritage languages and cultures.
🌟 Your Impact: Your support can help us impact over 2,100 emergent bilingual children, annually, support educators, and partner with families. Your contribution is key to ensuring educational equity and a brighter path forward for children with bilingualism in their bones.
- $30 donation: Supports the development of free and open culturally responsive bilingual learning resources, like our popular book guides.
- $80 donation: Funds production of one episode of our highly-rated podcast, Talking to Grandma.
- $200 donation: Supports the development of an additional unit of our social-justice bilingual curriculum for children, ALAS.
- $500 donation: Sponsors family or educator participation in our flagship program, the Preservation Collectives.
- $1,200 donation: Supports the development and launch of our latest innovative learning tool, the Bili app. Bili unlocks bilingualism through culture, connection, and play.
🌍 Why This Matters: More than 40% of children come to school with the foundations of bilingualism, but far fewer graduate with the ability to speak, read, or write in their heritage languages. When children's heritage languages are valued, developed, and celebrated, they thrive. For example, research shows that Latinx students who emerge from high school as strong bilinguals go to four-year colleges at higher rates than their peers who lost or only maintained weak knowledge of their home language.
