TLDR
HELLO FRIENDS AND CYCLISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
MY NAME IS ALEXANDER, I'M CYCLING ALL AROUND NEW-ZEALAND AND I'M MAKING A PODCAST ABOUT IT!
WHY A PODCAST?
-LEARNING ABOUT NZ HISTORY AND CULTURE!
-INTEGRATING KIWI SLANG IN MY VOCABULARY!
-BUT THE MAIN GOAL WILL BE TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE NON-PROFIT INTERCAMBIO SO THEY CAN PAY THE LOCAL TEACHER WHO ORGANISES THE ENGLISH CLASSES FOR THE CHILDREN OF COMUNA TRECE, AN UNDERPRIVILEGED NEIGHBORHOOD IN MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA!
-AND ALSO JUST TRY TO LET YOU SMILE AND ENJOY THE STORIES OF THE PEOPLE I'LL MEET ON THE ROAD!
WE NEED AROUND 6000 EUROS TO PAY THE TEACHER FOR A FULL YEAR!

Project Comuna Trece
The English classes are part of a program (which also includes soccer, dance...) organized by a local organization to prevent young people from getting into prostitution and/or drugs, two problems that the neighborhood suffers greatly from.
In addition, the English classes have the goal of creating a safe space. The classroom is a place where young people feel at home, where they can laugh with their friends, have fun, forget their problems at home for a while, …
Specifically for Colombia, we want the English classes to prepare the children for the job market in the tourism sector (which is the largest economic sector in Colombia). In addition, speaking English is also a huge advantage for obtaining a scholarship for higher education (both at home and abroad).
After a long search, we have finally found a local English teacher who meets our quality requirements to organize English classes for the youth of La Divisa (an assistance neighborhood in Medellín).
We send volunteers with appropriate backgrounds from all over the world to Medellín. The volunteers prepare the classes, teach in the classroom and organize activities which promote the use of the language (cinema club, language camp,… ).
You will probably think a teacher? You just said there are volunteers you send to teach in the project.
Well yes this is true, but a teacher is important to be able to work more professionally:
-For our students: a confidant, someone who knows the culture, someone who will raise the level/motivation of the kids,....
-For the volunteers: someone who will teach them interactive teaching methods, who will assist the volunteers in difficult moments/cultural conflicts,...
-The teacher: a job and an income, an opportunity to work in a social project and have an impact,...
Practically how can you support us ?
Make a deposit via this page or or on the following account number: BE65 0634 5652 6996.
(we need a budget of about 6000 euros to pay the teacher for a full year)
