You believe people should be free to think, to question, and to be who they are. In much of the world, that belief comes at a price: persecution, exile, violence, sometimes death. Freethinkers International supports the people who pay that price. Not with words, but with practical help: safety, housing, legal aid, and a community that does not abandon them.
Who We Are
Freethinkers International is a global community run by the id Fix Foundation, a Dutch ANBI-registered charity recognised since 2006. We stand with people who are persecuted for their beliefs, their identity, or their refusal to conform: atheists, LGBTQIA+ individuals, activists, and anyone who dares to live differently in a society that punishes them for it.
The Crisis We Face
Every week, people reach out to us who cannot go home, cannot speak their minds, and cannot live openly as themselves. They have lost their families, their homes, sometimes everything. When someone contacts us in crisis, we commit to supporting them through their entire journey Not just for a week, but for as long as it takes to rebuild a life.
That takes time. It takes resources. And it takes people who believe it is worth doing.
Why Recurring Donors Are Our Lifeline
Without steady monthly support, we cannot make the long-term commitments that actually change lives. A one-time gift helps. A monthly commitment transforms.
That is why monthly supporters are the backbone of our work. Without predictable income, we cannot say yes when someone reaches out in crisis. Your recurring donation becomes their foundation for rebuilding.
Who We Help Worldwide
Atheists and freethinkers who face persecution, family rejection, or state violence for leaving their religion or speaking their mind
LGBTQ+ individuals who cannot be who they are, facing imprisonment, forced marriage, or violence in countries where their identity is criminalised
Women trapped under oppressive religious laws, denied education, autonomy, or the right to leave
Activists suffering from state, religious, or family persecution for standing up for human rights
Your Impact in Action
Supporting one person through a crisis is a collective effort and costs between €200 and €800 a month, depending on the country they are in, the medication they need, and the safety measures required to keep them protected. On top of that, we sometimes face one-time costs: emergency relocation, visa, surgery, or legal assistance that can run into thousands of euros and cannot wait.
Here is what that looks like in practice:
- 40 people giving €5 a month can cover the basic living costs of a transgender woman from Yemen waiting for relocation in Egypt: food, a simple room, and phone credit to stay in touch with her case manager.
- 50 people giving €10 a month can support an atheist from Somalia rebuilding his life in Kenya with his young daughter: food, medication and rent for a room and a shop that will help him become self supporting.
- 20 people giving €20 a month can help a gay man from Afghanistan studying abroad until he finds a safe path: housing, food, tuition fees.
One monthly donor cannot do this alone. But together, we can.
How to Give
Choose a monthly amount below. Even €5 a month adds up to real support over time. If you want your donation to go towards a specific group or individual, please mention this in the comments field when you donate.
We are currently supported by 27 monthly donors who together contribute €485 a month. Our goal is 1000 monthly supporters so we can commit to more people in need. Every 20 new supporters means one more person we can say yes to when they need help.
