Last month we were alerted to a colony of "15 to 30 cats" in a remote part of Viação, Ponta Delgada. Including young kittens. Unless these cats are sterilised, they will continue to reproduce and their suffering will continue tenfold. They didn't ask for this life and it's down to human neglect that they are where they are.
Working together with the Animais de Rua, we would like to change their fate. But, we can't do it alone. We need your support!
On 5 and 6 August, we will head out altogether to trap all of the cats. Between 6 and 8 August, they will be spayed & neutered at a clinic we have booked. Then in the following days we will return them to the location. Our goal is to raise between €1,600 and €3,200.
An estimated 15 to 30 cats, including many kittens. If by some wonderful miracle, more than this is raised, the surplus will be donated to Animais de Rua. This organisation tirelessly feeds colonies and TNRs across the island, helps poor families care for their pets and, perhaps most importantly, petitions the government and communities for change in animal welfare regulations, practices and culture.
Vet care, estimated at €1,600
Spay/neuter surgery and deworming.
Food supply, estimated at €800
Costs of food for the coming year.
Additional funds, estimated at €800
In case of medical issues or injury, or more cats than expected, funds to cover some vet care. In addition, we would like to build 2 feral cat houses and 2 feeding stations for the colony. These are estimated at €55 each.
Volunteers
For giving their time, diligence and logistics, we would like to thank in advance the 6 volunteer trappers Sofia, Ondina, Maria, Mokix, Tamar and Ed.
With additional funds, we can cover food costs and provide shelters.
