In 2015, we moved to Lawnside, NJ to start Free Haven Farms, an educational organic farm that serves the community. The work came with challenges. The first two seasons we attempted to grow, our crops were decimated by deer and groundhogs. The solution was a fence around the 1/2 acres of space that we were growing on. I was able to build this fence by hand. We had to do the best we could with the tools that we had at that time. Since that time, the fence has gone through weathering, storms, and years of wear and tear. Last year, we were able to save enough money to have part of our fence professionally rebuilt. The old fence that still exists on the other half of the property has been completely damaged beyond repair by this year's harsh weather conditions and needs to be rebuilt. At the present time, small-scale farms are struggling to fund projects like these as well as our normal operational costs. At Free Haven Farms, we believe that with the support of the community that we continue to serve, we can reach our goals of funding this project tot be able to fix the remainder of our fence and plant and grow a lot of great produce to serve our community.
