You can help us to build a Firm Foundation for the Future!
Our Firm Foundation Campaign is raising regular donations to help secure a sustainable future for our innovative choir. We also welcome one-off gifts, however large or small.
“I strongly commend Steel City Choristers as worthy of anyone’s financial support.”
Ian Naylor – Head of Music Education in Sheffield
Your support will help us to continue serving communities, and inspiring and training children to sing, for many years to come
If you want to help us thrive, the best thing you can do is donate regularly. However much or little you give, you will help us to reduce our reliance on unpredictable grant funding and recruit a manager to organise the choir’s increasingly complex schedule.
Please help us raise an extra £15-20,000 a year.
Join the growing number of people who give regularly and be proud to be part of our Firm Foundation for the Future!

Your regular giving is the key to our sustainability
To secure a sustainable future, we need to increase reliable, regular giving from people who want us to thrive. Strong relationships got us started; strong relationships have enabled us to grow and thrive; and only strong relationships can underpin our future sustainability.
If you can commit to regular monthly or annual giving you can help us build a sustainable source of income to underpin our work. By giving regularly, you will become part of our Foundation for the Future.
We know there is a pot of gold at the end of our rainbow. Thank you for your generosity!
You can help our independent choir thrive for years to come
In recognition of the investment that is needed to develop and sustain musical excellence, many cathedrals have a Musical Foundation – often set up many hundreds of years ago – as an endowment to provide a regular source of income for their music department. As an independent choir, we need to build our own Firm Foundation for the Future.
We know that there are many people who value and benefit from the work we are doing and want Steel City Choristers to thrive for many years to come serving the communities and children of Sheffield. If that’s what you want, you can help make it a reality by taking a stake in our future.
Your donation will make a real difference
We could not have got this far as a charity without the generosity of the grant funders listed on our homepage, and we are hugely grateful for their support. But we know that grant funding is not predictable, and could dry up at any time.
You can help create a more stable source of income to support our work. Here is an idea of how your donation could help:
- Semi-quaver: £5 a month – One new set of sheet music for the choir a year
- Quaver: £10 a month – One chorister’s singing lessons
- Crotchets: £40 a month – Two services of Choral Evensong a year
- Minims: £120 a month – One chorister’s place in the choir

“The educational benefits of Steel City Choristers are enormous, musically and socially. Not only have they created something magical, but they’ve done it believing that children from all backgrounds can aim high. I’m so proud to have them as a partner of the Hub, and strongly commend them as worthy of anyone’s financial support.”
Ian Naylor, Head of Music Education in Sheffield
“Steel City Choristers gives kids the opportunity to learn to sing some incredibly complicated music from some of the greats, alongside adults who encourage them every step of the way. Attempting and succeeding at something difficult is an experience they can carry forward into the rest of their lives.”
Dan Walker, Choir Parent
“Steel City Choristers are going from strength to strength - it is the geographical and musical range of their performances and the impact on young lives, as well as all who hear them sing, that is really impressive. They are a gift to our city and region.”
Tom Daggett, Director of Music and Schools Singing Programme, Sheffield Cathedral
“Reasons to Sing! was a joyful celebration; highlighting the power of music to bring people together. What a brilliant example of the positive work that Steel City Choristers do in our city. Thank you!”
Kate Josephs CB, Chief Executive, Sheffield City Council
“It is a phenomenal achievement to produce the standard of music you do, on a par with cathedral standards, without the resources usually associated with a cathedral music foundation. You are all to be congratulated!”
Revd Canon Michael Gisbourne, Canon Precentor, Ripon Cathedral
