On June 18th, a devastating fire destroyed the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta's warehouse and our entire inventory of household furnishings, including more than 800 mattresses and 500 dressers, all of which were earmarked for individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness and others in urgent need.
While we are incredibly grateful that no one was harmed, the consequences of this unthinkable loss are tremendous and have critically impacted our capacity to meet the needs of our clients without significant delay.
This fire marked the greatest challenge the Furniture Bank has faced in its 37-year history. We know we will rebuild, and the outpouring of support we’ve received from our community in the past month — their belief in our mission and faith in our long term recovery — has only strengthened our determination.
The Furniture Bank has found a temporary warehouse space and resumed partial operations, but our road to full recovery requires urgent action and broad community support.
