For the past 14 years in Ghana, Africa, Learn Grow Lead has provided basic education to over 600 at-risk children, and has funded the Shaisiri Orphanage which provides food and a safe place to sleep to 26 orphaned children.
Our partners in Ghana began leasing land to start the Helpers Farm as a social enterprise to help fund the orphanage. On the 10 acres of leased land they grow organic produce which is sold in the local economy and generates ⅓ of what it costs to operate the Shaisiri Orphanage.
But one third just isn't enough to keep an orphanage going. To make ends meet, the kids sometimes just get one meal a day.
What if instead of leasing ten acres of farm land, they could purchase twenty acres of their own land?!
What if those twenty acres meant that instead of generating revenue to pay only 1/3 of the orphanage operating cost, farm profits could pay for 100% of orphanage costs!
Farm land ownership and expansion will not only sustain the orphanage, it will help the whole community by creating more jobs and food security.
