I am Aaron Faugstad, Executive Director at One Heart Health, where we build towards a future where every child with heart disease, no matter where they live, gets a chance to live a healthy life.
I want to personally thank you for your support of One Heart Health. 2024 was a busy year for us and thanks to donors we were able to accomplish the following in the past 12 months:
- Enrolled over 400 newborn patients with CHD in the Digital Heart Sounds Study in Bolivia, Mongolia, Nigeria, and West Virginia
- Continued to expand CHD screening services in Bolivia, China, Mongolia, and Nigeria
- Visited and launched an expanded congenital heart disease screening framework in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in September, gifting 10 digital stethoscopes and hosted a training day on the One Heart Health telemedicine solution
- As a result, all newborns in Ulaanbaatar will be covered by the One Heart Health telemedicine solution – approximately 10,000 newborns every year will be properly screened for CHD
- Developed and integrated 2 new AI/ML algorithms in v1.0 of the One Heart App: a heart sound vs noise classification algorithm and a heart murmur detection algorithm
- Completed One Heart App v2.0 MVP and released v2.0 to App Stores in December 2024, allowing anyone with a mobile device anywhere in the world to download the app for free. You can download it today on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store

In 2025, we plan to build on this momentum. We intend to replicate the success of implementing a screening framework in Mongolia and build similar screening frameworks with our partners in Bolivia and Nigeria. We are finalizing plans for scaled CHD screening frameworks with doctors in both countries and hope to visit Nigeria in early 2025 and Bolivia in September 2025. The results of these screening frameworks will be a sustainable screening network of rural doctors connected to pediatric cardiologists, ensuring that thousands of children are screened for CHD at birth and are connected to experts to get the care they need. We will also scale our existing screening framework in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to cover additional cities across Mongolia. Our goal is to establish a CHD screening framework that covers all newborns in Mongolia.
Our technology development team has ambitious goals to build off our successes in 2024 too. In 2025, our team will update our cutting-edge algorithms with data from the Digital Heart Sounds Study to improve its performance in automatically detecting CHD and integrate both into the One Heart App v2.0. With the integration of these algorithms, rural doctors will be able to receive a probability score for the existence of pathologic murmurs in seconds and connect patients with a high probability to a pediatric cardiologist for next steps and treatment. Our mobile app team will continue to improve v2.0 of the One Heart App by adding educational resources and building new features based on the feedback from our partner doctors. To do all of this in 2024, we will need your help again.
