“Every mickle mek a muckle” is a Jamaican expression that reminds us that every small effort contributes to meaningful change. What began as a simple reminder to our clients became our rallying cry, especially as we transitioned into providing aid after Hurricane Melissa.
In the aftermath of this devastating hurricane, we experienced firsthand the challenges, delays, and red tape that prevented communities from receiving timely support. It was frustrating to see people in urgent need being left behind while processes stalled. That frustration fueled our commitment to take matters into our own hands to ensure our communities get the assistance they deserve.
This is why we’re launching Just Connect a community-first recovery hub built to bypass barriers and get real support directly into the hands of those who need it. Just Connect will offer immediate relief including food, water, Wi-Fi, electricity, business and wellness support. As recovery continues, it will expand into a long-term space for business assistance, workforce development, and co-working opportunities, giving residents and entrepreneurs the tools they need not just to rebuild, but to thrive.
We want to take this to the next level by securing a dedicated space that the community can rely on: a place that’s always available, always accessible, and built for the people who need it most.
This is a major undertaking, but as we say in Jamaica, every mickle mek a muckle! With the support of our fiscal sponsor, Ignite Change Jamaica, our local partners, and generous contributors like you, we’re well on our way to making this vision a reality.
