“The Impact of Art Education on Preserving Family and Community Memories”
Speaker: Ms Liu Kuei-Jung
How can a guided art class help individuals of all ages gain new insights into their families and communities while facilitating personal healing? How do these everyday people, places, and experiences connect with our own lives?
Liu Kuei-Jung, an art teacher from Kaohsiung Girls' High School in Taiwan, will demonstrate to friends in Pittsburgh and the Taiwanese American community how she uses a two-hour art class to guide diverse groups—including retired elders, TSMC engineers, middle school students, and elementary school students—in reflecting on their family stories and creating art based on their memories.
Join us to explore the rich community stories inspired by these art classes. After the talk, you are welcome to stay for a meal (please register separately) and participate in an art class led by Ms. Liu, where you can contribute to a collection of stories about Taiwanese American memories in Pittsburgh.
This event will be conducted in Mandarin Chinese.
