Original post, March 2020:

Ender Manuel Martinez is a human rights advocate, LGBTQ+ activist, and refugee from El Salvador currently recovering from cancer while requesting asylum in Mexico. He is also a kind and compassionate person who cares deeply about justice and is beloved by many. Friends and generous donors have supported him financially through his first cancer treatments in his home country, his recovery from an anti-LGBTQ hate crime that required he be hospitalized, and, finally, his forced migration to Mexico after members of MS-13 threatened to kill him if he did not leave El Salvador within a week.

He has now arrived safely in Mexico City, just as COVID-19 threatens to devastate Mexico. We have provided him with the funds necessary to apply for a humanitarian visa, which should give him access to Mexico's public health care system. However, he's counting on us for support with his basic needs and expensive chemotherapy drugs as he settles in to his new home and receives much-needed medical treatment. Given his vulnerable health status, it is dangerous for Ender to work in public-facing positions while COVID-19 spreads, and employment will be difficult to come by in the ever more likely event of a recession.

If you have the means to do so, please join us in making a recurring contribution of $5 to $25 or more to ensure that Ender is supported in this difficult time. Recurring contributions relieve stress by allowing Ender a stable source of basic income while he focuses on his recovery from cancer. (You're welcome to cancel your contribution at any moment, of course, but we would deeply appreciate it if you would plan on contributing for six months or more.)

Many thanks for your kindness and generosity in these dark times.
