Providing Skills for a Safer Georgia
Despite best efforts, the State of Georgia currently carries a nearly 50% recidivism rate. Recidivism refers to the likelihood of an individual who has been convicted of a crime and released from prison will return. While there are many factors that play into the role of recidivism, the largest factor of previously convicted person returning back to jail or prison is because they are considered non-employable for many livable waged jobs. Their opportunities are oftentimes very limited, despite the nature of the crime committed.
However, studies have consistently shown that individuals who participate in educational programs during or after their incarceration are less likely to reoffend. Skills and education that oftentimes re-entering citizens don't have.
