Single mothers have low rates of college degree attainment: as of 2015, just 31% of single mothers ages 25 and older held a bachelor’s degree or higher, compared with 54% of comparable married mothers and 40% of comparable women overall. Once enrolled, single mothers are much less likely than married mothers and women without children to complete college. Unfortunately, of the billions of dollars donated in the US each year, philanthropic support for women’s and girls’ organizations remains a small share of overall charitable giving at only 1.9% in 2018. This is why we need your help.
Dr. Courtney Gatlin Keener Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to serving Greater Houston Area single mothers in low-to-median-income households looking to improve their quality of life through higher education that culminates with a degree from an accredited college or university. Our programs provide motivation, information and financial resources to aid single mothers on their educational journey. Our "Queen Scholarship" awards multiple single mothers with academic scholarships that range from $500-$3,000 annually, and includes special funds specifically earmarked for STEM-related studies. Although women make up nearly 50% of the US workforce, only 27% are represented in STEM occupations, a statistic we would like to see improved.
Currently, there are very few organizations dedicated to helping single mothers pursue higher education. A quick Google search for "non-profit organizations for single moms in Houston" highlights this major deficiency and the serious need for our organization and your support. As a former single mom and college dropout, our President & CEO knows first-hand the struggles of single motherhood. Now, as a four-time college graduate, including a doctorate, Dr. Courtney Gatlin Keener is reaching back to help others.
Please join us as we help single mothers go from “statistics” to success stories! Your tax-deductible donation is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dr. CGK Foundation, Inc.
