Giving Tuesday: Diane Wilson and San Antonio Bay Waterkeepers

Update: Winter 2023

Diane Wilson is on another historic Hunger Strike, but this time she is fighting for Fishermen in Vietnam!

In 2016, the toxic spill by Formosa Ha Tinh Steel mill devastated Vietnam's coastal environment, decimating marine life crucial to the livelihood of over 179,000 fishermen in the region.

To this day, adequate compensation for over 7,000 victims is yet to be seen, resulting in higher rates of unemployment and poverty. Calls for independent investigation, oversight, and transparency have been largely suppressed through intimidation and imprisonment.

Update: Summer 2023

We are looking to expand our team!  Diane has been working hard for 30 years and the time has come to build a team around her work to keep it going beyond her time with us.  We are looking to hire locally to help Diane with day-to-day operations and find administrative and communications support to get her work to a broader audience.

San Antonio Bay Waterkeepers with Diane Wilson as a leader has a proven track record of holding polluting and extractive industries accountable. We won a landmark $50 million and zero discharge settlement against a multi-national plastics manufacturer and helped halt the Matagorda Bay dredging project which would have spread a superfund site of mercury and further damaged the ecosystem.

It takes a lot of fuel, community engagement and social outreach to make these changes happen.  We are continuing the fight to hold Formosa accountable by daily monitoring plastic discharge in the water.

Give a financial gift to San Antonio Bay Waterkeepers via the nonprofit Calhoun County Resource Watch, 501c3 Tax ID: 74-2585960. All financial donations are tax deductible.

Donations are used for building out team, boat maintenance, fuel for monitoring plastic pollution and industrial discharges, activities related to fighting petrochemical and fossil fuel build ups, engaging and educating community, and website/media management and costs.
