šļø PRESSURE RIDE
Men carry pressure. We ride with it.
From 6ā20 August, weāre taking on a longādistance motorcycle ride from Landās End to Spain, raising funds and awareness for MAN DOWN UK, a charity supporting menās mental health through peerāled talking groups across the UK.
This didnāt start as a charity challenge.
It started as a few mates planning a couple of weeks away on the bikes ā good roads, some sun, and a proper break. When the chance to witness the total solar eclipse came up, the trip grew. And at that point, it felt right to give it more meaning.
If we were already doing the miles, why not use them to start conversations and raise money for a cause doing real work in menās mental health?
š£ļø THE RIDE
The journey takes us from Landās End, across Cornwall and over to France, riding south into Spain to witness the total solar eclipse. From there we continue through the Picos de Europa and Pyrenees mountains before returning to the UK by ferry.
Itās a long, multiāday ride covering a wide range of roads, terrain, and conditions.
Thereās no race and no spectacle ā just turning up each day and riding on.
š THE MEANING BEHIND āPRESSUREā
Throughout the ride, weāll be carrying an inflatable passenger.
It represents the pressure many people carry without it being obvious ā stress, responsibility, expectations, anxiety. The kind of weight thatās easy to miss from the outside.
Making that pressure visible isnāt about making a statement.
Itās about starting conversations ā quietly, and without judgement.
Pressure doesnāt have to be carried alone.
š§ WHY MENāS MENTAL HEALTH?
The reality in the UK is stark:
- Suicide is around three times more common in men than women
- In 2024, over 6,000 suicides were registered in England and Wales
- Men aged 45ā54 have the highest suicide rates
- Only 36% of NHS talkingātherapy referrals are men, despite clear need
Many men still feel pressure to cope, push on, or deal with things alone ā which means problems are often left too late.
š¤ WHY MAN DOWN?
MAN DOWN UK is a Community Interest Company founded in Cornwall that now runs informal, peerāled talking groups across the UK.
Their approach is deliberately simple:
- ā Free to attend
- ā No referrals
- ā No judgement
- ā No pressure to talk ā listening is just as welcome
Men can just turn up, sit with others who understand, and speak openly (or not). For many, these sessions are the first time theyāve ever talked honestly about how theyāre really doing.
š· WHERE YOUR DONATION GOES
All donations through this page go directly to MAN DOWN UK.
Your support helps fund:
- Regular peerāsupport group sessions
- Venues and practical costs that keep groups accessible
- Expansion into new areas so more men can attend locally
The journey itself is supported separately by individuals and businesses ā none of the donations here fund the ride.
ā¤ļø WHAT YOUR SUPPORT CAN DO
While MAN DOWN doesnāt dress impact up with marketing figures, every contribution helps keep groups running and accessible.
As a guide:
- £10 helps cover practical costs of a local group session
- £25 helps support multiple men accessing peer support
- £50+ helps sustain groups and expand support into new communities
If youāre able to donate, youāre helping create spaces where men can talk ā often before things reach crisis point.
šļø WHY THIS RIDE?
Life isnāt a oneāday challenge.
Some days are easy.
Some are uncomfortable.
Most sit somewhere in between.
This ride mirrors that reality. Thereās no finishāline celebration ā just turning up each day and continuing forward. Making pressure visible. Carrying it. Talking about it.
š SUPPORT THE RIDE
If this resonates with you ā whether because of your own experience, someone you know, or because you believe men deserve spaces where they donāt have to carry things alone ā please consider donating.
Every contribution helps.
Every share helps too.
