Grampound Football Club are hosting a charity match in aid of Man Down Cornwall in memory of Ryan Maker on Saturday 29th April at 2pm at Grampound Recreation Ground. Man Down provides peer support groups for men all over Cornwall with mental health concerns.
Ryan first played for the club in 2004 aged 19. During his involvement with the club, Ryan was a first team regular & also had spells as captain & manager of the team. Ryan also represented the clubs reserves & veterans team & was manager of the very successful under 11’s team.
Those who played with Ryan always regarded him as one of the most naturally gifted footballers to play for the club. Ryan showed bravery on the ball, a huge amount of technical ability & a great range of passing with both feet.
More importantly though is the fact that Ryan was considered a great friend to many of his team mates over the years. Ryan participated in the memorable end of season tour to Torquay in 2009 & would always stay for a drink after a game to have a laugh with his team mates. His sense of humour & great company will always live in the memory of those who knew him.
The memorial match will include a number of players who played alongside Ryan over the years who are all donating at least £10 to Man Down Cornwall to participate. There will be a minute's applause before the game & a collection will take place to raise further money throughout the game. After the match the club invites everyone to have a drink in Ryan’s memory in The Dolphin Inn where a raffle will take place & a killer pool competition to raise further funds.
From all at Grampound FC we hope to see you on the 29th April where we will do our best to honour Ryan Maker.
