Hi, 

my name is Connor McCarthy, and anyone who knows me knows how much I hate running! But on May 10th I’ll be pushing myself out of my comfort zone to run the Bristol Half Marathon in support of Mandown, a charity that does incredible work for men’s mental health — a cause that is close to my heart.

On May 12th 2017, I lost my stepdad to suicide. Despite the struggles he faced, he never failed to make people smile with his quirks, laugh at his silliness and was our rock of support to our family. He is the final piece to our puzzle which we have missed so much over the last few years. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realised just how much he did for our family, even while dealing with so much in his own mind.

His love for rugby and the gym still motivates me today and inspires me to be more like him. He made my mum the happiest woman on the planet, and seeing her smile and happy is what means the most to me.

This half marathon takes place just two days before the 9th anniversary of losing him. Crossing that finish line and raising money in his memory would mean the world to me — and hopefully bring a smile to my mum’s face for the amazing man she loves so very much.

I’m aiming to raise £250, so any donation, big or small, would be hugely appreciated.
