Goal
Thank you for visiting our page, your support is greatly appreciated.
We are aiming to raise awareness of the challenges of mental health, particularly how it affects men in Cornwall.
We understand that Cornwall has the third highest male suicide rate in the UK.
On October 26th 2024, Andy Hichens will attempt to run 100 miles continuously without any preparation.
Andy has a base layer of fitness but will not carry out any additional running to prepare himself for this event.
We know that running such a distance will be extremely challenging, however to not prepare physically for this event is important for the following reasons…
We understand that mental health can effect anyone at any given time without prior notice. With this in mind Andy wants to face this challenge head on.
Andy plans to run 100 miles in segments of 10 x 10 mile intervals. Stopping briefly to hydrate and fuel his body. To keep moving forward when facing adversity, it is incredibly important to stay active, hydrated and to feed your body with good sources of quality food.
Furthermore, Andy will be joined by all those who have supported him through personal adversity. Andy’s friends and family will be with him along the way. His fiancée Jamie will start the journey with him, and will aim to finish the final leg with him.
Along the way those closeest to him will support some of the 10 mile sections, others Andy will purposely run alone, just as at times with mental health, ultimately we will feel alone.
This event is to raise awareness for Man Down Cornwall, but is dedicated to his fantastic friends and Family…
Jamie, his Mum & Dad, JD, Lynsey, Kev, Debs, Paddy, Rach, Phil, Katie & Carmelo, Saltz, Andy B, Miles T & Brian T.
