What is good BCG for 6.5CM AERO M5E1 build?

Do you recommend a standard carbine spring and buffer for an un-suppressed .300 blackout rifle, 16 inch barrel with a pistol length gas system?

For large military ammunition plants that are similar to LCAAP (Lake City Army Ammunition Plant), could they also mass produce high-quality hollow point ammunition (that are similar to commercial self-defense type of rounds) instead of the typical standard issue full-metal jacket rounds like the M855? – Since purchasing the Black Hills MK-262 MOD-1 line of ammo would be too costly and hard to produce for the entire US military?

Gas block set screws and locking compounds always fail. What is your favorite jig to align the datums for the front sight base and the gas port hole when drilling and reaming for taper pins in a non-factory setting? We use dedicated fixtures at work for the production runs, but it is difficult to handle all the different varieties when doing custom gunsmithing work.

Most of the government funded technical information on firearms topics are ITAR regulated. What are some of your favorite technical and engineering resources that are available to the public on firearm topics, either the classics or recent publications?

Though on Mac scalping Hungarian SVDs on gun broker despite made a video about denounce scalpers last week, basically screw AK forum guys that spent years with FEG to get SVD imported. Now people troll bidding to 10 millions dollar.

Happy St. Paddy's Day, I would just like to take this moment to thank Joe Biden for buying me a new Glock 19x with Streamlight as I guess it's one of those seasonal promotion deals at the moment. Anyway got 2 questions, first, I'm thinking of swapping the sights as my 19x did not come with night sights, what are your thoughts on the fiber optic sights with tritium? and second question, do you ever read for leisure? Because I can highly recommend this book by John Boessenecker about Frank Hamer, the Texas Ranger who took out Bonnie and Clyde.

Wanting to build a 72 clone but with a midlength gas system, do I need m4 feed ramps for reliability? Also do I need a non F marked front sight for use with an A1 upper?

Joey | $5.50

Do you think the advent of red dots on pistols means longer barrels and slides will go the way of the dinosaur? It seems like without the need for the the increased sight radius because of the dot, the main reason for a longer barrel/slide on a pistol disappears. Thoughts?

What are the recommendations for the different height over bore options for the AR platform, a good cheek weld for different head shapes, and gas masks and night vision? It seems like "all the cool kids" want to elevate the sights much higher than 2.6", whether they are wearing a gas mask or not. The "cool kid" instructors don't understand that women need sight heights that are lower than 2.6".

Can a DI gas system coexist with a folding stock? I’m a little confused about the connection between the gas system up front and the buffer system out back. It seems like all rifles with folding stocks have piston gas systems.

Evening Chris and Heather, got a question about Gen 2 Glocks, namely my Local Sportsmans Warehouse has a used Gen 2 Glock 21 for under 500 bucks that looks like it could use having parts replaced, can Gen 4 Glock Parts work on the Gen 2 or how would you go about making a Gen 2 Glock run in 2021 and beyond? Or skip the Gen 2 all together and wait for a new Gen 4 or 5 to be on shelves?

Evening Chris and Heather, just a couple questions to submit. Regarding gas port-sized diameters of an AR-15/AR-10, how can that effect the cycle of operation of that particular weapon? Is the topic of having proper port-sized of the gas being bled into the cycle of operation, often a misunderstood topic with certain commercial manufacturers, similar in the case of proper drilling and pinning a gas-block to the barrel vs. using set-screws? Lastly, for external-piston firearms such as an AK-47 or an AR-18 type of system, can they still have an improper port-size diameters that can throw the system off or eventually have fire-cutting around the gas-port?

Why was the 45 caliber chosen for the Mark 23 instead of the 9mm or 40 S&W? If the project was done today, do you think they still would choose 45?

Does Sig actually have a patent on their magic 1.5x stack magazine in the P365/P365XL, or can we expect to see other handguns squeeze more rounds in thin frames (like the Hellcat has) going forward?

Hi Chris, you may be aware that I was a contributor to the first 'Black Rifle' book by the late great Blake Stevens. I had access to the ArmaLite promo movie in 16mm cine format that was in the hands of Jacques Michault of Sidem International who was one of the original 3 distributors of the AR10 rifle. I made a VHF video tape copy of the movie and sent a copy to Blake-Stevens and he reproduced some still images in the first Black Rifle book. That was in 1984.... I recently got access to the original 16mm cine 'master' and will be making a digital 'frame by frame' copy of it (the copy from 1984 was analogue video), you are welcome to include it on your channel (we will be putting it up on our Armourers Bench channel too) as you are after all a huge Stoner fan👍 Regards, Vic Tuff

What are your thoughts on the Timney trigger kits that converts Glock pistols from double action to single action? Many uninformed internet experts believe that converting a Glock to single action removes one or more of Glock's 3 safety mechanism. The trigger safety, firing pin safety, and drop ledge safety are still present. The sear is inertially unbalanced in the Y-axis, but disengagement is opposed by a sear spring and friction from the sear interface. The testing of the triggers on the MTS machines and shock testers look really nice, a game changer. Unfortunately, Timney chose a 3 pound trigger pull weight.

How often do firearm manufacturers perform a SFMEA (Systems FMEA) and a corresponding FMEM (Failure Mode Effects Management) on firearm designs, or is that not an industry practice in the firearms field? I don't want to single out any firearm manufacturers or designs, but A LOT of failures could have been prevented by something as simple as a SMFEA and a FMEM. When designing other military equipment we have to do this, but I see glaring errors in firearm designs that would have been caught by a baby engineer doing a SMFEA. A lot of problems can be easily avoided.

What have been the biggest technological improvements to the AR platform since the M16A2 was released in 1986? What do you see as the upcoming technological advancements to the AR platform in the next decade? The engineering parents in my neighborhood worked for Mellonics (Litton Industries) for Army contracts during the improvement program for the M16A1. It was cool to hear those engineers discuss what was needed to make the M16A1 better for the Army. They were very upset at the Marine Corps Officers and the incompetence of the Ordnance Corps and Natick when it came to the adoption of the M16A2. The engineers in the early 1980's well analyzed the ergonomic and reliability needs that ultimately became part of the ARs we know today.

Sorry for the long question. Why does it seem like the traditional American companies like S&W, Winchester, Remington, colt, Ruger, etc. are unable to compete in today’s market? They seem to be more tradition focused instead of adapting to the modern market. S&W might be the most successful with their M&P line being somewhat popular with civilians and police. They really can’t compete for contracts like HK, Glock, Sig, FN and the like can. I have no problem with foreign companies,It just seems like we struggle to produce quality gear for our own military. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks

What is it about wounds from rifle bullets that make them so much more devastating/effective than wounds from pistols? People talk about hydrostatic shock ad nauseam, but experts like Marty Fackler says it plays no role. What say you? Why are rifle bullets so much better at killing things than pistol bullets?

Hi Chris and Heather, glad you survived Siberia Texas style. I got 2 questions and a statement 1. Was at a store and saw a Springfield Saint Victor in .308 and a Windham Weaponry .308, which would you choose for an AR10 or do you a better option for around 1200 2. At this same store, they have a Glock 37 in 45 GAP, should I grab it before it disappears? Is it even worth having a 45 GAP? Or track down something like a S&W MP45 in 45 acp that's actually to fit the human hand? 3. Statement: Texas needs to fire that moron governor of yours, and Cancun Cruz.
