Why we need your help
Yonibana Dental Teaching Hospital is part of the Better Lives Foundation (BLF) - UK registered charity number 1122290 working to better people’s lives in West Africa .
Yonibana Dental Teaching Hospital is an initiative of the Better Lives Foundation (UK Charity No. 1122290), working to improve access to healthcare in Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone has a population of around 8.5 million people, yet there is no dental school and, according to the Ministry of Health, only two practising dentists in the country. As a result, simple and preventable dental problems often become painful, dangerous, and life‑threatening.
Since 2009, Better Lives Foundation has provided free dental and optical care through dedicated teams of local and international volunteers who donate their time, skills, and even cover their own travel and living costs. While this has helped thousands, short‑term care alone is not enough.
Our Goal
We are raising £850,000 to build a Dental Teaching Hospital that will provide lifelong care and local training, creating a sustainable solution for future generations.
The hospital will include:
- 10 dental surgeries
- A training room with 15 phantom‑head units
- Operating theatre and X‑ray room
- Lecture spaces, library, and student computers
- Full dental equipment for comprehensive treatment
How You Can Help?
- Donate — every contribution counts, and as we are entirely volunteer‑run, 100% of donations go directly to the project
- Share this campaign with friends, family, and on social media
Your support will help bring dignity, health, and hope to thousands.
