Hauzen District in Tigray, Ethiopia, is facing a critical water crisis. Once home to 84 functioning boreholes that supplied clean water to its population, the district’s water infrastructure has been deliberately decimated by invading troops during the Tigray conflict, which claimed the lives of thousands in the district.

Today, over 180,000 residents, including women and children, are left with little to no access to clean drinking water. Women, in particular, bear the brunt of this crisis, walking up to six hours daily to fetch water—an immense physical strain and safety concern.

Tigray Youth Network (TYN) is partnering with Life and Hope International, Menbere Selama Tigray Orthodox Tewhado Church, and local officials in the Hauzen Woreda to address this pressing issue. Our collective mission is to rehabilitate these boreholes, starting with an initial phase to restore 20 boreholes, and ultimately to restore all 84.

This work will provide clean, safe drinking water to thousands of people, alleviate the burden on women, and improve the overall quality of life for the district’s residents.

TYN is proud to kickstart this initiative with a donation from our current funds. However, to achieve our broader goal, we need your help. Your contributions will go directly toward funding this vital project. With your support, we can bring hope, health, and dignity back to the Hauzen District, one borehole at a time.

Together, we can help Hauzen’s people rebuild their lives and regain access to one of life’s most essential resources—clean water.
