Friends: We are in our first period of great need since the pandemic began. At that time, we shifted our business model from live music ticket sales to artist sales in our shop, online shop sales, and print collective memberships. This was a risky but successful shift during a period of uncertainty for so many. The cushion we built up from online shop sales and COVID relief grants has become much slimmer than we would like as both of those revenue streams have receded and in-person events have become more common. We want to not only build our cushion back up, but make progress on our long-term financial goals.
Throughout our first 5 years as a business, we have supported local artists, writers, and musicians in both traditional and creative ways, increased our role in local arts advocacy, and supported numerous local mutual aid efforts.
While we occasionally apply for grants to cover specific projects, it is not a part of our business model to be sustained by them or to compromise our values to seek large donations from individuals.
As we continue building infrastructure toward bringing on paid staff, we seek more monthly donors to help us establish long-term financial security.
Our success depends on community investment. An investment in Communication is an investment in arts equity, arts advocacy, and fair compensation for artists of all kinds. We hope you will consider becoming a monthly donor!
